Roofing Fasteners
Roofing
The fasteners used to attach a metal roof system are a significant part of the roof performance and, in turn, of the whole building. We carry a wide range of fasteners suitable for all your roofing needs.
Class 1 & 2
Screws are made from heat treated carbon steel, the screws are heat treated to give added strength. They are then electro plated with a clear or yellow zinc for better corrosion protection. This coating is not normally thick on cheaper methods of coating
5 -8 microns for Class 1 ( Z head marking )
12-14microns for Class 2 ( Z2 head marking)
The zinc coating is vulnerable in marine and industrial environments
Class 3
All our class 3 coated screws are mechanically Galvanised. This coating process is used for thicker coated screws, 25microns and up. This process helps overcome hydrogen embrittlement (causes screws to snap) as is the case in Electroplating. Mechanically coated screws offer higher corrosion protection. As the Coating is thicker and all parts of the screws are coated during the rotation of the barrel of chemical.
Z3 fasteners have +/- 25 microns of a zinc and tin alloy coating with +/- microns of a Ruspert 1000 Top coat.
Class 4
All our class 4 coated screws are mechanically Galvanised.
Z4 fasteners have +/- 50 microns of a Zinc and Tin alloy coating with +/ 40 microns of a Ruspert 1000 Top Coat
Class 5
Stainless steel screws
Stainless steel is an alloy steel that has low carbon in it and contains chromium, for enhanced corrosion resistance. Stainless steel cannot be hardened and is therefore a weaker material compared to carbon steel screws. Our screws are made form a 304 grade stainless, coated with a zinc clear coating for aesthetic purposes. The zinc Clear coating also acts as a tapping agent when drilling into steel, and adds to the corrosion properties. Bi metal screws are made with a Carbon steel drill point used for drilling purposes as stainless is too soft to drill on its own. 304 and 316 grade stainless is also less magnetic than regular steel. These screws perform well in Marine Environments
